When I die, cry for me—
A Poem by Kelsey Edwards
For Carol and for Wiggy
One day, I know, I’ll be a memory
until that time, let’s live carefree
and when I die, cry but once for me.
Our lives are not lived in misery
death is no different, you must agree
one day, I know, I’ll be a memory.
Do not dwell on when we disagree
instead on the brightness of day, filled with glee
and when I die, cry but once for me.
And let that be an anomaly
you will carry on without misery
one day, I know, I’ll be a memory.
You and I both know that we are family
we'll meet again, at the roots of our tree
and when I die, cry but once for me.
I've always lived in honesty
so look to the sky and you’ll see me fly free
one day, I know, I’ll be a memory
and when I die, cry but once for me.
About Kelsey
BoundBy Copywriter and editor
Hi, I’m Kelsey! I’ve been an Editor, Copywriter and Contributor for BoundBy since we launched. I love getting involved with events, script and the upcoming editions. My poetic style is conversational and somewhat narratological. It is also, I hope, focused on human relationships (including with the self), mundane but defining moments and working-class life. I like to look at the little things in a big way.
In establishing myself as a professional writer and freelancer, I’ve recently built and launched my website (www.kelseykayedwards.com) to streamline releases, projects and updates. This was made possible by joining Word Tonic, an international GEN-Z copywriting community that offer resources, masterclasses and practical support. I’ve also taken a bigger role in BeaconLit Book Festival (www.beaconlit.co.uk), which fundraises for the local library. As Communications and Promotions Manager, I write newsletters, articles and social media posts to update our audience and expand our reach. This is on top of the copywriting and organising of a Poetry Circle event that I also do for the festival. As you can tell, a lot is going on but I know the experience and actionable difference I’m making are more than worthwhile!
