To the girl who got me flowers

A poem by Kelsey Edwards

I’m allergic to lilies

but I’ll love them just the same, smell them

just the same. Despite the red rash raising

my skin, despite the feeling of my throat

closing in, despite the burning from my lips

to my chin. Despite all this, I’ll keep them

until after they should go in the bin.

I’m allergic to lilies

but I’ll love them just the same.
