About Kelsey

Kelsey has been editor of BoundBy since its launch in 2022, alongside other roles. After some time away, she’s excited to return and champion the work of new and established poets. Her creative interests explore surrealism, the working-class experience, hyper-specificity and the mundane. Kelsey works at a secondary school and is passionate about community initiatives like BeaconLit book festival. She also co-edits a village magazine and, when she has time, enjoys painting at night or people-watching.

  • As editor, I review submissions, help select poems for publication, and suggest refinements to bring out each piece’s potential. Beyond the editorial work, I get to read and appreciate a vast array of writing, celebrating the diversity, evolution and energy of the poetry community.

  • At university, I explored the selective abandonment of the inverted comma in fiction. I’d love to see more experimentation with form and visuals, especially with dropping punctuation. These playful (or calculated) risks can enunciate the spaces between words, or shape the pacing.

  • Read widely and write often. Take a notebook on the train. You’ll find the poem, write the poem, deconstruct the poem and rebuild the poem. Repeat until it takes on a life of its own. Accept that sometimes there won’t be a poem. Most importantly, remain unserious.
