a poem by
Or Is That Moles?
He understood the assignment, repeated
it back in a slightly too-loud voice,
but as soon as he was alone he couldn't
remember a word. I might be a baby,
he thought, an actual baby; I might struggle
to lift my head, orientate by smell.
Or is that moles?
He could no longer see wild colours; his hand
reached not for his phone but a father’s finger.
Well did he settle into the niche of parents,
until finally he could accommodate it all
and lift his head out of the mud.
